Kambili: The whole 30 yards.

Let’s say, Kambili the impulsive spender.

I watched this movie a month ago and I can vividly remember every bit of it and want to give my two cents.

This movie is a Nigerian romantic comedy, based on a lady who was in her late 20s, eager to get married before she turns 30. (Nancy Isime as Kambili Maduka.)
She is an impulsive spender, who buys anything she sees and has a quick likeness for it. She has a bestfriend who is always there for her through thick and thin. (Jide kene Achufusi as Chidi.) Her other friends are Venita Akpofure as Biodun and Koye Kekere as Ekun, who are engaged.

Jide Kene Achufusi has always been one of my best actors. He starred in Living In Bondage: Breaking free as the lead actor which blew my mind. He was so natural in this movie. He got his lines real good. His facial expressions made it captivating to watch.

Personally, Nancy Isime delivered. I’m not giving her credit because I kinda like her. No! I think she did well.
I don’t think her lines and actions were predictable.

Venita Akpofure, it’s my first time seeing her act a movie. The scene where, Koye told her that maybe her job wasn’t as important as his, hmm that facial expression she made for 1/2 seconds got me. E choke!

Koye Kekere. I always see him as a funny character. I’m never so excited to see him in any movie. He is always passive but okay.

Mawuli Gavor. The very scene I disliked him the most was where he met Kambili on a date with another guy in a restaurant. Why did he stop to talk to her? Was he expecting her to still be begging him or what? That scenes wasn’t needed or maybe it could have been developed well.

Sharon Ooja. Permit me to laugh here, she is a crazy character. She did very well though her character was predictable.

Elvina Ibru. She is the kind of mum every girl would want based on her character but I don’t understand the choice of hairstyle and piercing.

Uzor Arukwe. Mr.man, your chest gat me thinking. He was well built. I like his role, he wasn’t trying to be Kambili’s father by all means or sort of making her to see him as a father figure. But was he the right actor for that role? I’m still doubting.

Toyin Abraham. I personally think she didn’t fit the role but it’s fine, it’s fine.

I don’t like the choice of actors to be honest. Some weren’t fit for the role. (Elvina Ibru)Cynthia’s fiancé(Uzor Arukwe) & (Toyin Abraham)Jessica.
Also, the scene where Mawuli’s girlfriend walked in to meet him talking to Kambili and the guy she was on a date with. The disgusting kiss and all that wasn’t necessary. Was it to make kambili jealous? After he said she wasn’t wife material.

Mechanics of this movie:

Direction: There could be more to this movie though. Some of the characters didn’t portray some certain things. Should I blame the script writer?

Cinematography: The cameras weren’t stable. It was shaky. The camera angles and movements, it wasn’t appealing for me.

Editing: I will give this a 6/10.

Writing: Please, how did kambili get to her mother’s house and bomb, we found her in the kitchen? How about, she going to chidi’s house and he persuading her to go see her mum, maybe she could help pay for her rent. Let’s say, Chidi drives her to her mum’s house and bomb! We would see her mum and Bankole, having a nice time. Who is feeling this my scene? How did she enter the house? We didn’t know whether Kambili has a spare key to her mum’s house or we were meant to assume that, right?

Soundtrack: Choice of songs, 6/10.
